Every year, thousands of Nigerians require Proof of Fund (POF) for different purposes — from studying abroad, securing immigration visas, to winning business contracts and tenders.
In all these cases, you must provide verifiable financial evidence that you have the required funds. But the process can be stressful, confusing, and time-sensitive.
That's where POF NG comes in. We provide legitimate, verifiable Proof of Fund and investment certificate documents tailored to your specific needs:
Thousands of Nigerian students build their study-abroad plans on one assumption: "I'll fund it with an international student loan." For 2026, that assumption needs urgent updating — Prodigy Finance has paused support for African applicants for the Fall 2026 intake, removing one of the two big no-collateral lenders from the table.
The good news: loans remain a legitimate, embassy-accepted way to satisfy proof of funds — if you use the right lender and present the right paperwork. This guide covers who still lends to Nigerians, how a loan letter works as POF for each destination, and the timing traps.
Can a Loan Really Serve as Proof of Funds?
Yes. Immigration authorities in the US, UK, and Canada all accept education loans from regulated lenders as financial evidence:
- USA (F1): a loan approval/sanction letter counts toward the I-20 amount and is standard at interview — pair it with the rest of your F1 financial evidence
- UK (Student visa): a loan letter from a regulated lender in your name satisfies maintenance — one of the few alternatives to the 28-day cash rule
- Canada: education loans are listed by IRCC as acceptable proof — they combine with the other elements of a 2026 Canada file
The loan must be approved and documented — a pending application proves nothing.

Who Still Lends to Nigerian Students in 2026
MPower Financing — the main no-collateral option
- $2,001 – $100,000, no collateral, no co-signer, 10-year terms
- For students within two years of graduating at ~400 approved schools in the US and Canada
- Issues the support letters and disbursement confirmations universities and embassies expect
- Details: MPower's Nigeria page
GlobCred
- Loan structures explicitly recognised by UKVI, IRCC, and US embassies for proof of funds
- Covers tuition and living costs; works with UK destinations MPower doesn't

Prodigy Finance — paused for Africa, Fall 2026
Prodigy's pause covers African applicants for the Fall 2026 intake (their Africa page). If Prodigy was your plan, you need a replacement now — pauses like this historically outlast one intake. MPower (US/Canada masters programmes) is the closest substitute; GlobCred covers UK routes.
Local options
Nigerian bank education loans and the government student-loan scheme exist, but for international POF purposes their letters carry less weight and foreign-currency disbursement is harder to evidence. Treat them as supplements, not the spine of your file.
The Three Timing Traps
- Loan approval comes after admission. You can't show a loan letter at application time for most lenders — sequence your timeline: admission → loan approval → visa file.
- Partial coverage. Loans often cover tuition but not the full living-cost requirement — the balance still needs cash evidence with proper history. A Canada file needs the CAD $22,895 living component covered one way or another.
- Conditional approvals. "Approved subject to visa" letters create a chicken-and-egg problem some embassies probe. Get the letter's conditions in writing and pair it with stronger cash evidence.
Loan + POF: The Hybrid File That Works
The strongest applications we see combine sources transparently: loan letter for tuition, documented personal/family funds for living costs, each with clean source-of-funds documentation. Where the cash side falls short or lacks history, that's the gap POF NG fills — legitimate funding in top banks, seasoned and documented to your embassy's rules, sized to complement your loan rather than duplicate it.
