Every year, thousands of Nigerians require Proof of Fund (POF) for different purposes — from studying abroad, securing immigration visas, to winning business contracts and tenders.
In all these cases, you must provide verifiable financial evidence that you have the required funds. But the process can be stressful, confusing, and time-sensitive.
That's where POF NG comes in. We provide legitimate, verifiable Proof of Fund and investment certificate documents tailored to your specific needs:
You already know a GIC strengthens a Canada study permit application — our guides cover why the GIC is a cheat code for approval and the overall requirements from Nigeria. What nobody explains properly is the mechanics: which bank, which forms, how the money actually leaves Nigeria, and how long each step takes.
This is that guide.
Step 0: Know the Number
For 2026 applications outside Quebec, the GIC amount tracks the living-cost requirement — CAD $22,895 (Scotiabank quotes the required deposit plus a ~$200 program fee). At current rates budget ₦27m–₦30m for the wire, plus transfer charges. Confirm the live figure on your chosen bank's page before wiring.
Step 1: Choose Your Bank
| Bank | Application | Notes for Nigerians |
|---|---|---|
| Scotiabank (StartRight) | Online portal | The most-used option; investment account opened before arrival; program page |
| RBC | Online | Accepts funding up to CAD $75,000 — useful if you want extra settlement funds in the same wire; program page |
| CIBC | Online, digital tracking | No processing fee on FX; transfers up to CAD $50,000; program page |
All three are IRCC-recognised. Choose on practicalities: where your Canadian city has branches, and whose portal your agent/university recommends.
Step 2: Apply Online and Get Your Account Details
Complete the bank's GIC application with your passport and admission letter. On approval (usually days), the bank opens an investment account and emails wire transfer instructions with your unique account/reference number. Guard that document — payments without the reference get stuck.
Step 3: The Nigerian Leg — Wiring the Money
This is where timelines slip. To send CAD abroad from Nigeria you'll go through your bank's international transfer desk:

Whether you are applying for studentship, business deals, contracts, student visas, and immigration, we can fund you.
- Fund your naira account with the full equivalent plus fees and a rate buffer
- Complete Form A (the CBN's application for foreign exchange) through your bank — supporting documents: passport, admission letter, the GIC instruction letter
- The bank sources FX and wires CAD to your GIC account via SWIFT
- Timeline: 3–10 working days in normal conditions; FX availability can stretch it — start at least a month before you need the certificate
Practical notes: wire from an account with clean, documented history — the source of your GIC money can come up in your visa review; and confirm whether your bank quotes all-in fees or deducts along the SWIFT chain (short-paying the GIC by $50 delays your certificate).

Step 4: Receive Your GIC Certificate
Once funds land, the bank issues your GIC Investment Directive/Certificate (typically 1–5 business days). That document goes into your study permit application as proof of the living-cost component — alongside tuition payment evidence and the rest of your Canada student file.
Step 5: After Arrival
Visit a branch in Canada with your passport and study permit to activate your account. You receive an initial lump sum (around $2,000–$4,000 depending on bank), then monthly or bi-monthly payouts over 12 months — your living allowance.
If Your Visa Is Refused
The GIC is fully refundable on refusal: submit the refund request with your refusal letter, and funds return to the originating account, typically within 4–8 weeks. Full details in do I get my POF money back if refused.
Where POF NG Fits
The GIC covers living costs — but your file still needs first-year tuition evidence and often additional family funds, with the 4–6 months of history IRCC likes. That's the part we structure: compliant funding and documentation that completes the GIC into a full, approvable file. And if raising the ₦28m+ wire is itself the obstacle, message us to discuss legitimate structuring options.
